Domal Stromatolites

Large spheroidal unicells from 2.1–1.88 Ga stromatolitic cherts  are found in the Vempalle Formation, India (revised age in Chakrabarti et al., 2014). They have also been suggested as putative eukaryotes (Schopf and Prasad, 1978).

The Vempalle Formation (~1.9 Ga) of Cuddapah basin in Peninsular India preserves a continuous thick succession of stromatolitic dolomite (~1.5 km) during the upper Palaeoproterozoic (Orosirian) time.
